He completed his 21st five-wicket haul of his test cricket career. He spent just 59 to pick up 7 wickets and created best figures of his career. He took 13 wickets for 140 runs, which is his career’s best. Cheteshwar Pujara (101*) made a not out ton and helped India to build up a great total.

New Zealand Batting: – New Zealand didn’t like a fighting team in their second innings. Both of the Kiwi openers started to play very patiently. But Left handed batsmen Tom Latham couldn’t hold too long and lost his wicket at 7. As result, New Zealand team lost their first wicket.

After losing Latham, Kiwi team was trying to overcome from the loss of first important wicket. Kane Williamson was looking dangerous. But nothing too hard for Indian spin wizard and he got this Kiwi batsmen. Williamson tried to cover his stumps to avoid getting bowled. But he was stuck in the magic of spin of R. Ashwin. He found in front of the wicket, when a sharply turning ball hit his pads and the umpire didn’t take too much to raise his finger. The hope of Kiwi team was going back to the pavilion.   • Ashwin did better to his test figures as he took 13 wickets for 140. Before this, he took 12 wickets for 85 runs against same team NZ at Hyderabad in August 2012. These are his two ever best performances.
  • Ashwin improved his tally of ten wickets. He did it sex times, only Kumble (8 times) is better than him.
  • Ashwin’s count of 27 wickets in a three match series is the second highest by any bowler with average of 18 approx. Next only to him is Waqar Yunis from Pakistan- 29 wickets (10.86) in 1990-91
  • Ashwin took 44 wickets this year at an average of 19.86 in seven test matches. He is the top wicket taker this year in test matches.
